about me

Shannon Chen See (she/her) is a poet, art writer, and marketer born and based in Kingston, Jamaica whose work explores Caribbean situatedness through questions of place, identity, and belonging. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Writing (Poetry) at Pacific University, and is a recipient of the Kwame Dawes Mapmakers, Washburn, and Merit scholarships. With her writing, she probes what it means to be unable to avoid something, for the body to be a false yet shifting signifier of otherness. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in sx salon, Burnaway, theVERSEverse, among others. Shannon regularly performs her poetry, and has been a featured poet for the University of the West Indies’ annual “Love Affair with Literature” event and the Poetry Society of Jamaica's "New Year, New Voices" event.
Building creative community across digital and physical geographies is also central to her practice. She is the Managing Editor of PREE, a digital-first platform amplifying vital voices from the Caribbean and Elsewhere, as well as an Executive Member of the Journal of Jamaican Art, an art writing collective documenting and critically engaging with Jamaican art.
Prior to making writing her focus, Shannon built her career as a marketer in the technology industry. As Senior Marketing Manager at Async Art, a new media art and music creation platform, she led their go-to-market effort for several product and partnership launches which tripled their sales volume to over $31 million USD, and managed relationships with top-tier artists and musicians. At ACTO, a SaaS company for pharma and medical device companies, she progressed with the company through scaling from <50 to 100+ accounts, 17 to 140+ employees, and 2 strategic acquisitions. She continues to flex her marketing muscle in a freelance capacity through watchensee, her boutique marketing agency.
